Please note that Piano Motifs as an AUv3 MIDI Plug-In will not play any sound by itself, it generates MIDI that can be routed to other apps and effects instantiated in a host. IMPORTANT: GarageBand does not support MIDI only Plug-ins, so the AUv3 will not work in GarageBand.

. Piano Motifs chooses a music key from many different scales and an accompaniment from a varied set of accompaniments. Piano Motifs then uses its musical theory algorithms to overlay a melody in the chosen key and accompaniment. Piano Motifs are short, they go from around 16 seconds to around 30 seconds.

Version History • Add new options for the 3rd Track: Chord All, Chord Odd, Bass Sustain, Bass All and Bass Odd. With the All option the 3rd Track will play note(s) on every 1/8 beat. With the Odd option the 3rd Track will play note(s) on every 1/4 beat. With the Bass Sustain option the 3rd Track will play a bass note over every bar.
• Improved Continuous mode for better transitions between motifs.
• Added an "Any" option to all the controls of the Accomp Every N Accomp Style. "Any" will choose a random value for that control.
• Fixed issue where the 3rd Track Type wasn’t being retrieved correctly in Arrangements.
• Fixed 3rd Track Type in Append Mode not working correctly. 4.118 Oct 7 • Added the ability to use Append Mode when in Continuous Mode. When these two modes are used in conjunction, the generated motifs will be appended to an Arrangement. (AUv3 only)
• Added the ability to repeat a motif while in Continuous Mode. To activate press the Repeat button on the left-hand side of the motif name. (AUv3 only)
• Fixed issue where if in Append Mode, in some scenarios, a Host Session wouldn't be saved correctly. (AUv3 only).
• Minor bug fixes and improvements. 4.117 Sep 22 • Added the Random Selection Accomp Style. When you select this Accompaniment a popover screen will be displayed with a list of all the Accomp Styles. There, the Accomp Styles can be constrained to a set from which the app can randomly select when generating a motif.
• Added a MIDI Split option. This option allows to select the MIDI channels depending on the notes being played. There are 4 note zones that get mapped to MIDI channels 1 to 4. To program the zones turn On MIDI Split and slide your finger over the keyboard. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only).
• BPM phrasing should be turned off when Continuous Mode is activated. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only). 4.116 Sep 9 • Added Continuous Mode. In Sync Mode, motifs are continuously generated while the Host is playing. In Non-Sync Mode, motifs are continuously played after pressing Play. Activate Continuous Mode by long-pressing the Generate/Play button and selecting Continuous. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only).
• Fixed issues with the Experimental Accomp Style. Some settings were not being saved correctly. 4.115 Sep 1 • Added BPM Phrasing when in Non-Sync mode. Set the BPM offset, the phrase length and how to apply the BPM offset using 4 different BPM types: Accelerando, Ritardando, Arch and Reverse Arch. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only).
• Fixed issue where the MultiChord Bar settings In the Program Chord Progression Screen is cleared when you press the Randomize die and the Chord Progression is locked.
• Fixed Issue when retrieving a Host session where Piano Motifs is in non-Sync mode. If you go back to Sync mode, the motif is lost. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only) 4.114 Aug 14 • New curves for velocity offsets per section in Arrangement Screen. Added Slow and Fast to the already existing Linear curve. These new curves are quadratic, causing the velocity offset to change gradually over time rather than at a constant rate.
• Fixed crash that can happen when loading presets in the AUv3 plug-in.

• Fixed iPhone UI issues where popover windows in the More Settings Screen were not being displayed correctly, making some features inaccessible. 4.112 May 14 • Fixed crash that can happen when retrieving a Host session saved with v4.110. 4.111 Apr 6 • Added new Velocity option in the Arrangement Screen. Select velocity offsets for the start and end of a section to gradually increase or decrease the note velocities for each section of an arrangement. Use this feature to implement crescendos and decrescendos in your arrangements.
• Doubled the button area for the Generate/Play, Next and Revert buttons.
• Fixed issue where the Melody Sequence Freeze feature was not producing accurate results.
• Fixed crash that can occur when retrieving a Host AUv3 session and there is an arrangement with a single motif that has a loop count greater than 1.
• Fixed crash that can occur when the following settings are used: Accomp Voice Leading, Swing or Triplets or Sixteenth Notes and Accomp Last Bar.
• Fixed crash that can occur when you trim a section in the Arrangement Screen and the section has a Programmed Chord Progression with Swing or Triplets or Sixteenth Notes.
• Minor bug fixes and improvements 4.110 Apr 4 • New Canon Accomp Style. When you choose this style, the accompaniment will follow the same notes of the melody delayed by one bar and one octave down. The resulting motif is a two voice canon. Please note that because the canon algorithm determines the notes in order to maintain the canon structure, some settings such as Programmed Chord Progressions and Melody Constraints may conflict with the canon rules and will be overridden. 4.108 Mar 17 • Added a Mode for the Experimental Accomp Style. You can now choose a less than, an equal, or a greater than option for the value specified in the Every picker (how often a note is played). This will allow for constantly evolving note sequences.
• Improved Voice Over Accessibility. More UI elements have this feature now. 4.107 Feb 21 • New Slash Bass setting for Programmed Chord Progressions. You can either Add a Bass note to a Chord or Swap the Root Bass note of a chord for another note. Perfect for line cliché bass lines and other bass movement ideas. 4.106 Jan 31 • Added new option to the Drone Accompaniment Style. You can now specify for the Drone Accompaniment to be a Dyad (2 notes of a chord). The Dyad can be the 1-5 (root and 5th), 1-3 (root and 3rd) or 3-5 (3rd and 5th). The Dyad drone adds a subtle harmonic color and texture without the fullness of a chord. This is great for Ambient tracks.
• Fixed crash that can happen when calculating the number of chord notes for Rolled Chords (AUv3 Plug-In Only).
• Fixed crash that can occur when changing from Bluetooth to Speakers and vice versa.
• Fixed issue where setting a lock for the Drone Accomp Style isn't working correctly. 4.105 Jan 9 • The Melody Sequence Setting has a new Frz (Freeze) option for each one of the 2 sequences. You can select between 2 different Freeze modes: Note and Interval. When Note is selected, the exact same notes are played on each sequence beat. When Interval is selected, the intervals of the first notes played are preserved and remapped to the chord played in each bar. The default setting is Def, where the sequence may be randomly frozen or not.
• Fixed crash that could sometimes happen when loading motifs into an arrangement. 4.104 12/19/2025 • Hosts can now save Presets for Piano Motifs. A Preset will save all of the Piano Motifs state: the current Motif and the current Settings.
• Added variations to Chord Accompaniments for randomly generated motifs.
• Minor fixes and improvements. 4.103 10/27/2025 • Added a new option for when to send a MIDI CC Message: At Bar. A CC Message will be sent on the first beat of the defined bar. When this option is selected a stepper will appear to define the bar. The default value for the stepper is 5. This means that a CC Message will be sent on the first beat of the 5th bar. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only)
• Incremented the maximum number of bars that can be programmed in the Programmed Chord Progressions Screen to 256.
• Improved the accuracy of the Melody Note Frequency for frequencies less than or equal to 5%.
• Minor improvements and fixes. 4.102 10/15/2025 • Fixed issue where setting the Melody Harmony MIDI Channel would not set it but set the CC Message MIDI Channel (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only).
• Incremented the maximum value for the Delay Start Bars parameter to 999 (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only). 4.101 09/11/2025 Added the ability to send a configurable MIDI CC message at the end of a motif or after all motif loops have completed. To configure, tap MIDI to open the MIDI screen, where you can choose the CC Number, Value(s) and Channel for the message. Then select the "CC Send At" from two options:
– Motif End: Sends a CC message every time a motif ends, even if the motif is looping. For this option, you can define two CC values, which will toggle with each loop completion if the motif is being looped.
– Loops End: Sends a CC message only once, after all loops of the motif have completed.
This feature is only available for the AUv3 MIDI Plug-In. 4.100 09/09/2025 • Added new "Every N Accomp" Accompaniment Style. When you choose this accompaniment a popup screen will be displayed where you can select the Accompaniment type you want to use every N bars (Arpeggio, Chord or Bass), the value of N (2, 4 or 8), and the Accompaniment type for the rest of the bars (Arpeggio, Chord or Bass).
• Removed unnecessary Warning popup when there isn't a generated motif and you change the key, scale or time signature (AUv3 Plug-In Only).
• Fixed issue where the Melody 16th Notes Setting could change even if it was locked.
• Fixed issue where the Accomp Open Voicing Setting could change even if it was locked.
• Minor bug fixes and improvements. 4.99 08/27/2025 • Added individual locks for each one of the Settings. This function is very useful when using the Randomization Function (Dice Button) and you don't want the random algorithm to change some specific Settings.
• Minor fixes and improvements. 4.98 08/09/2025 • Added randomize button (dice) to User Defined Melody Constraint.
• Fixed issue where UI was not fully visible in the smallest AUv3 window of Groove Rider 2.
• Improved the Tonic Arpeggio Accomp Style.
• Minor fixes and improvements. 4.97 07/13/2025 • Added a Random option for the "Every" parameter of the Experimental Accomp Style. This option will cause a note to be played at random intervals.
• Added a selectable Tonic or Chord option for the User Defined Melody Constraint. This option lets you choose between Tonic scale or Chord tones for your melody notes.
• Fixed crash that can occur when Grace Notes are used to generate a motif and the Extend feature is used in Arrangements. This can also result in corrupted .motif files. (AUv3 Only)
• Fixed crash that can occur when using Grace Notes or Rolled Chords in combination with a Delay Start. (AUv3 in Sync mode Only).
• Improved the Randomize Settings function. 4.96 05/14/2025 • Added AU parameters Generate and Next. These parameters are one-shot trigger parameters that can be controlled by external events on a Host. (AUv3 Only)
• Fixed issue where when randomizing Settings and Custom Voicing was selected, no octave shifts were being set.
• Fixed background color of SYNC button when White Labels and White Borders are On. (AUv3 Only)
• Fixed crash that can happen when you use Randomize Settings, the Host goes to the background and then later is brought back to the foreground. (AUv3 Only)
• Improved algorithm used to Randomize Settings. 4.95 05/06/2025 • Fixed crash that can occur on devices running iOS 18 or later. In the Program Chord Progression Screen if you tap on a chord defined for a bar in the Chord Progression Row the app can crash.
• Fixed issue when the Settings Randomizer picked the Chord Suspend Accomp Style or the Chord Accomp Sytle with the Vary option. No chord variations were being generated.
• Fixed issue when the Settings Randomizer picked a Melody Sequence and the melody play beats were outside of the defined beats per bar. No melody was generated for the motif.
• Improved the Settings Randomizer algorithm. 4.94 04/30/2025 • Added new randomize button for the Settings. Press the dice button on the Settings section to randomize Settings.
• Fixed issue where if you trim both the front and back of a section in the Arrangement Screen this can cause a either crash or an incorrect number of bars on the resulting motif.
• Fixed issue where the No Silent Bar Setting and the Melody Harmony % Setting were not being Reset when the Reset button is pressed.
• Fixed issue where if you set both the Accomp Last Bar Setting and you have Melody Swing Enabled there is a crash.
